Simnel Cake and Mothering Sunday
Sunday 30th April at St Anne's after the service
Mothering Sunday is held on the fourth Sunday in Lent. It was originally a day to honour and give thanks to the Virgin Mary, also known as Mother Mary. This Anglican tradition continues, which is a time to reflect on the role of mothers in the church and in families, and to give thanks for the blessings of motherhood. Mothering Sunday, the Sunday of the Five Loaves, or Simnel Sunday; is named after the cake. In the United Kingdom, it is now commonly associated with Mothering Sunday and Easter Sunday.
